Hidetoshi Nakata is a former footballer as well as businessperson who has made significant contributions to the evolution of Japanese football throughout his career.
After graduating Nirazaki High School, he joined J.League club, Bellmare Hiratsuka. He was selected for the U-23 team as their youngest player and participated in the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. Immediately after the 1998 France World Cup, Nakata made a surprising transfer to Italy, Serie A's Perugia. Nakata became recognised as an active, central player in his team, and transferred to top team A.S. Roma part way through his second season in Italy. In Season 00-01, Nakata became the first Japanese ever to play for a Serie A team that won the Italian championship. Nakata transferred to Parma in 2001.
In 2002's Korea-Japan World Cup, he scored a goal and was a major contributor to the team's progression to group league finals. In 2004, Nakata transferred to Bologna followed by a transfer to Fiorentina shortly after. Nakata transferred to Bolton Wanderers, his 6th team, in 2005.
In the 2006 World Cup Germany, Nakata played aggressively and led the National Team as a central player who has much international experience and skills. Just after the last game against Brazil in June.22nd , Nakata announced his surprising early retirement from professional football. He continues to be a major interest of the public and seeking his second career by traveling around the globe.
